Smart Home Experience Center

Bringing life to a practical category using emerging technology, Storytelling, and physical + Digital interactions

Concepting, designing, and prototyping to solve
problems and create exceptional experiences

Summary

Smart home technology had become commoditized around cost savings, making purchasing products uninspiring. Working with a Fortune 500 home electronics brand through 900lbs over 8 months, our challenge was to transform a practical product category into one consumers can't live without.

Alongside the Creative Director, I developed the creative vision to reframe their value proposition from "save money" to "save what matters most"—transforming 6 retail environments into immersive experiences where visitors explored how smart home products fit their lifestyle through various scenarios. The centerpiece was a dramatic experience where visitors witnessed near-disasters that the technology prevents, making abstract benefits viscerally real.

Through strategic ideation, cross-functional leadership, and spatial design, we created a $2M+ experiential retail environment that turned invisible technology benefits into tangible, compelling experiences consumers couldn't forget.

The Eye

A surreal multi-sensory experience using projection mapping and choreographed smoke effects that placed visitors inside disaster scenarios—burning homes, flooding, burglaries—before revealing how smart home systems prevent these tragedies.

Water

Real running water in clear aquarium-like displays let visitors see 'behind the walls' of their home's plumbing system. App-controlled demonstrations made invisible water issues tangible and immediate.

Super Connected

Interactive transparent screens provided x-ray views of home networks, helping visitors understand connectivity through compelling visual storytelling.

Security

Interactive scenarios where visitors experienced break-in prevention alongside security professionals, demonstrating real-time protection capabilities.

Energy

Mechanical air cannons shot smoke rings at digital displays—a playful yet educational approach to visualizing energy efficiency in action.

Air

Gamified scenarios where visitors fought invisible air quality threats like humidity, dryness, and contamination. Interactive elements helped them discover products that directly solved each challenge.
